BC Healthy Connections Project: Scientific Overview

May 31, 2016

This report was prepared in May 2016 as part of a contract with the BC Ministries of Health with support from the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development and five BC Health Authorities (Fraser Health, Interior Health, Island Health, Northern Health and Vancouver Coastal Health).

This report explains how we are evaluating the Nurse-Family Partnership — an intensive home visiting program for young, first-time mothers — using randomized controlled trial (RCT) methods. Our aim is to  investigate how the program compares with existing health and social services. We launched the RCT in October 2013 and closed recruitment in late 2016. The study team is following each of the 739 families until children reach their second birthday and until all families have completed a series of interviews.
