ABSTRACT

In May 2006, the Honourable Michael Kirby, chair, and the Honourable Wilbert Keon, deputy chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, issued their final report on mental health: Out of the Shadows at Last: Transforming Mental Health, Mental Illness and Addictions Services in Canada. Advocacy groups and professional associations across the country applaud the profile that this report gives to mental health. Yet the inherent focus on the recovery of adults with serious mental illness may be disappointing to those concerned with children’s mental health.
