The Mental Health and Well-Being of Aboriginal Children and Youth: Guidance for New Approaches and Services

December 1, 2004

Summary:
The Sal’i’shan Institute has produced two reports on the mental health of First Nations children in partnership with the Children’s Health Policy Centre.

This report provides a review of both the literature and interviews with key First Nations practitioners and leaders in BC. Both reports focus on Aboriginal worldviews, and effects of colonization and the residential school experience on mental health. Broad strategies are recommended for First Nations communities and for government.
